Welcome to my Janelle’s homepage!
Hello! I have been enthusiastically serving the Laney College community since 2011. I can help you get this college thing down! I am passionate about informing students of the ways in which community college can be an institution of transformation and economic mobility in their lives. I hold an Associate of Arts degree in Individual Studies from Foothill College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with a minor in Chicana & Chicano Studies from UCLA, and a Master of Science in College Student Personnel and School (K-12) Counseling from San Francisco State University.
I teach Counseling 30: Personal Growth and Development, Counseling 24: College Success, Counseling 57: Career and Life Planning, and Counseling 201: Orientation to College. I LOVE learning communities and I work with students in Umoja-Ubaka, Puente, Gateway to College programs. I also previously served as the advisor to the Laney Black Student Union, a student club. I also serve on various academic senate and departmental committees to ensure the college considers students FIRST. I am also the current Chair of the Diversity Committee for the Peralta Federation of Teachers, the faculty labor union.
