Biology has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I completed my graduate studies in India, studying Microbiology for my Masters. I got my Ph.D. degree from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, India. For my thesis work, I researched genes that allow the bacterium E. coli to adapt to changes in osmolarity.
I then came to the United States for my postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. My research was in the field of developmental biology and genetics, using the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster.

I love to teach and have been involved in education since 2004. I volunteered for two years at Berkeley High School to help teach a biotechnology class. I also participated as a volunteer to teach biology in the Upward Bound program in Berkeley. I have taught at Laney College since 2006. My goal is to make the life sciences accessible and interesting to everyone.
