At Laney, we offer Introductory Astronomy (ASTR 10).  From the catalog,

Survey of astronomy at a descriptive level: Development of modern astronomy, light, astronomical instruments, the sun, formation and evolution of the solar system, the terrestrial planets, the Jovian planets, asteroids, comets, planets around other stars, and a brief survey of stars.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate between planets, stars, galaxies and the universe in terms of scale.
  1. Describe basic astronomical phenomena, including the seasons, the phases of the Moon, eclipses, and planetary motion.
  2. Describe the origin, development, and properties of planetary systems, stars, galaxies, and the universe.
  1. Analyze how theories in astronomy are based on observations.
