Mafi getting close to a decision

February 1st, 2012
Posted Jan 18,
Laney LB Dyllon Mafi (6-3, 215) had a big season in 2011
and has parlayed that productivity into at least one offer and one more could be
on the way. caught up the talented prospect recently and he
filled us in on where things stand…

“I got offered by Oregon State and took a trip there last weekend,” Mafi told “It was a real good
visit. They showed me around and told me they thought I would really like it there, but they didn’t push me to commit or anything like that.”

In addition to his offer from the Beavers, Mafi is getting heavy interest from San Diego State and he may
be visiting there this weekend.

“I’m just waiting for them to call me back,” Mafi said. “I only have the Oregon State offer right  now, but the San Diego State coaches said they won’t bring you out on a trip unless they offer you, so I guess if I end up tripping down there, that’s another offer for me too.

Mafi prepped at Oakland (Ca.) High School and was a late-qualifier and found the Laney football program shortly after graduating. “This place was a great find for me,” Mafi noted. “I loved the staff and the area. It was the right place for me.”

Moore’s slap saves Patriots’ season

January 24th, 2012

Undrafted rookie poked away would-be go-ahead touchdown in closing minute

By Steven Krasner

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — It had not been a particularly sterling game for Patriots cornerback Sterling Moore.

But New England is heading back to the Super Bowl, and Sterling Moore had a hand in sending the Patriots to Indianapolis, courtesy of their nail-biting 23-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game in
Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

Moore, an undrafted rookie, actually had a large hand in the dramatic win, as in his right hand, which he used to punch the ball out of the grasp of the Ravens’ Lee Evans in the end zone with 27 seconds left.

And while the Patriots ultimately survived because Baltimore’s Billy Cundiff hooked a potential game-tying 32-yard field goal wide left with 15 seconds remaining, it was Moore’s play that ensured New England would, at the very least, remain alive heading into overtime.

The big play not only helped propel the Pats into Super Bowl XLVI, but it also provided a little redemption for Moore, who missed a tackle in the open field, allowing Torrey Smith to get away and scamper into the end zone for a 29-yard scoring strike in the third quarter that gave the Ravens their first lead, at 17-16. January 7th, 2012

By Matt Schwab

Posted: 12/21/2011 09:30:30 PM PST

In a surprising twist, Laney College freshman tight end Connor Peters signed a letter of intent with Boise State on Wednesday.

Peters, a former De La Salle High star, fully expected to sign with San Diego State as a midyear transfer early Wednesday morning. But he changed his mind when Boise State — his dream destination all along — offered him a scholarship before the Federal Express packet arrived from the Aztecs.

“Oh man, I never felt better,” Peters said of how things turned out.

Peters, who is 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, is excited to be joining his former Spartans teammate Blake Renaud, a true freshman linebacker, with the Broncos. Peters said Renaud was “blown away” when he learned that they would be teammates again. Read More Here…..
