FACILITIES MASTERPLAN – PHASE 1 GOALS
The Facilities Planning Committee would like to invite you to complete a survey about the Master Plan design options. Just click on the link below to access the survey and follow the instructions provided. Thank you for your feedback!
After reviewing previous planning documents, compiling research, analyzing data, and gathering feedback from a wide range of faculty, staff, and students, VBN Architects have created three design options as a way of reflecting what they learned from us. Rather than choosing one option over the others, the intention is to have the Laney community identify elements in each of the three options that seem to address our goals and needs and elements in each option that don’t seem to fit Laney. That way the architects can use our feedback to generate a unified design with the best elements from all three of these initial design options. The presentation link below shows each option in detail.
The animations below give a brief virtual tour of what it might be like to enter the campus for each of the three options outlined in the presentation.
“Laney opened its doors in its current location in 1970, and experienced much deferred maintenance for over 30 years. In addition to maintenance issues, the college aesthetic is outdated in that it was originally designed to have an inward focus for both security reasons and instructional practices of the time. In order to create a more modern aesthetic the Laney College Community expressed an interest in redesigning the campus to have more of an outward focus or welcoming atmosphere.”
