Welcome to the Laney College Website. We look forward to your cyber visits and hope that you find this website engaging and informative. Hopefully, this site will provide you with useful information about our college. You should be able to find information about our history, programs, class schedules, student life, campus events, and the guidance to find any additional information you need about Laney College. We also strongly encourage you to visit our campus in person.  We thank you in advance for your patience as we continue to update this website to render it most useful to you.

Laney is an accredited and comprehensive community college committed to student learning and success! We are a diverse and culturally rich institution that takes pride in providing quality education and student services, while responding to the needs of the local and global community/economy. We will strive to provide you with a learning environment that is challenging, yet supportive of your personal interests and needs.  We want you to succeed while you are here, and equally important, we want to prepare you for your life and work beyond Laney. To that end, we offer education and training for jobs of the 21st century.  Our green jobs initiative and career and technical degree and certificate offerings are preparing the skilled workforce of tomorrow.

Conveniently located in the Downtown/Lake Merritt area of Oakland, CA, Laney College offers over 800 day, evening, weekend and online classes year-round, providing students in all walks of life the opportunity to take advantage of all Laney has to offer. Laney truly has something for everyone and is home to 14,000 students who are taking advantage of Laney’s diverse programs, rich campus life, and dynamic course offerings. Whether you are interested in transferring to a university, updating your skill-set for the workforce, starting a new career in one of our relevant career technical education programs, or simply taking courses as one of our life-long learners, Laney will work for you!

UPDATE YOUR MAILING AND EMAIL ADDRESS

Financial Aid Students: In order to continue to receive uninterrupted financial aid, you MUST review and update your mailing address and phone number. The Peralta Colleges are implementing a new financial aid system beginning the week of February 6th and you must confirm your correct contact information to receive your funds. You will also need to activate your Peralta email account to receive key information regarding financial aid. Please watch for a bright green envelope in your mailbox containing important information about your financial aid payments.

A special Professional Development day on February 11, 2011 with the highly distinguished Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade – A resident of Oakland, professor at San Francisco State University, and nationally recognized educator and author. He will engage the Laney Community in a discourse around the following questions…

  • What are the material conditions that effect urban youth before they even step foot in our classrooms?
  • What does it mean to develop educational enviroments that are relevant and responsive to these conditions?
  • How shoud these educational spaces define success for students and teachers?

Molly Blank’s 2007 award-winning film chronicles the lives of young people facing their future in the evolving post-Apartheid South African democracy.
