Laney College Choir

The Laney College Choir is open to people of any age from the greater community. One need not be a “student” to join although you must enroll in either Music 25, 16, or 216* (download syllabus or see below for course codes). The choir has performed a wide variety of music including: World Music, Classical Music, and Spirituals . We have sung in Farsi, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Hindi, Latin, Luo, Mandarin, Maori, Mongolian, Xhosa, and Zulu as well as modern European languages. Representative composers include: Bach, Bartók, Brahms, Dave Brubeck, Emma Lou Diemer, Guillaume Du Fay, Jester Hairston, Josquin des Prez, Palestrina, Thelonious Monk, Mozart, Pauline Oliveras, Salamone Rossi, Stravinsky, and John Tavener.

Director John Reager holds two Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance and Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studied conducting with David Conte, Anthony Pasqua, and Sonja Neblit. He was an AGMA tenor and soloist for eight seasons with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and has directed numerous choirs. He is published by G.I.A. in Chicago.
